Short description of the project, objectives and results
The project LIFE10 ENV/RO/000727 “Recovery of construction and demolition waste in Buzau County” was launched on 28 October 2011 and is implemented by the Buzau County Council in cooperation with S.C. Natura Management S.R.L.
The project aims to develop an operational and high performance system for construction and demolition waste management (C&D waste) by knowing, in as much detail as possible, the current situation regarding C&D waste generation, collection, recovery and disposal both at the level of Buzau County and at regional and national level, to create a coherent decision making system by clarifying the responsibilities of all factors involved at county level in C&D waste management, to establish a facile procedure for the cease of waste statute, to promote the recovery of C&D waste that is suitable for this purpose and to reach the legal objectives regarding the recovery of C&D waste at the level of Buzau County, including through the recovery of C&D waste that was disposed of in an unsuitable way.
The main results of the project are: development of an operational database on the management of C&D waste at county level (starting from the diagnosis of the current situation), elaboration of a best practice code (divided per three areas: individual houses, construction sites, authorities), commissioning of a C&D waste treatment facility, development of an interactive web application on the market of C&D waste and materials resulted from their treatment, draft methodology on the cease of waste statute for materials resulted from the treatment of C&D waste, draft technical norm on the minimum criteria which need to be fulfilled by the materials resulted from treatment of C&D waste in order to be used in different activities.
